Sustainability
Sustainability at Reber - step by step towards a livable future
As a family-owned company with the highest standards of quality, we take responsibility along the entire value chain – from raw material sourcing to packaging. Our goal: Enjoy chocolate while protecting nature and biodiversity.
Our guidelines
We believe that companies should actively contribute to a better future. That’s why sustainability is an integral part of our goals and actions. As a family company with the highest standards of quality, we are committed to the generational contract: producing today in a way that leaves tomorrow with livable prospects.
What we are working on – across the value chain:
– climate-neutral production at our Bad Reichenhall site (since 2024)
– resource-efficient, low-waste processing
– reduction & recycling of our packaging materials
Our milestones

UTZ certification: Start of sustainable cocoa sourcing and first UTZ certification
Extensive modernization of our production facility to reduce CO₂ emissions

100% use of natural flavours in our specialties

Since 2014 we have completely eliminated palm oil and use only high-quality cocoa butter in our Reber specialties.
Why palm oil-free? Palm oil is a commonly used ingredient in confectionery – but conventional cultivation can have serious consequences for the environment and biodiversity. Rainforests are often cleared to make way for new plantations, destroying the habitats of endangered species such as orangutans and elephants. We want to produce confectionery that not only tastes delicious, but is also produced responsibly. Our decision to avoid palm oil is a contribution to nature and species conservation – without compromising on taste.

100% UTZ-certified cocoa.
UTZ is now part of the Rainforest Alliance. The two organisations joined forces in 2018 to create a better future for people and nature. Learn more at www.rainforest-alliance.org

Offering a premium product in high quality over its total life cycle is mandatory for us. That´s why packaging plays an important role in food protection.
To reduce packaging material and save plastic, we are taking the following steps:
- Introduction of trays made with > 70% recycled plastic (e.g. Mozart-Kugel Dark Chocolate)
- Testing of cellulose outer film as an alternative to conventional plastic film

Gradual introduction of transparent recycling instructions on packaging – making it clear at a glance which component belongs to which recycling stream

With the commissioning of a photovoltaic system on our production and storage buildings (approx. 4,400 m²), we generate electricity on-site and save around 500 t CO₂ annually – equivalent to about 400 flights between Frankfurt and New York.
We haven’t reached our goal yet. Currently, we are working on further reducing the plastic content in packaging – for example, by eliminating window films or using alternative materials. Our motto: continuous improvement instead of standing still and honest communication about our steps.
